SWORDS
Learn the Italian longsword as a living martial art — real technique, real footwork, real swordplay. Beginners welcome.

The longsword, from the ground up
WHAT WE DO
We’re a Klamath Falls study group learning the Italian longsword together — the cut, the thrust, the bind, and the fight. We follow the Academie Duello curriculum: a modern teaching method grounded in the 14th-century Italian tradition. You’ll learn sound, historically-informed swordplay fundamentals. No experience and no gear required — we provide practice weapons, and it’s free to come try.
HOW WE TRAIN
WHAT WE STAND FOR
⚔
Proper arms
We train with weapons as close to a real sword as possible. Correct weight and balance let you learn from the weapon itself — which is why we advocate training toward steel as our loaner blades grow.
◆
Respect for the art
We treat the sword as if it were sharp. We’re here for the real martial art, not point-scoring sport — so we move with control and intention rather than blasting away at each other.
☽
Respect each other
Everyone starts somewhere. We train at a pace that keeps people safe and learning, match intensity to experience, and look out for our partners. A good training hall is a generous one.

BRING
NOTHING
Loaner weapons provided
We meet under the covered lakeside pavilion, so rain is no problem — we train rain or shine. Only thunder and lightning will cancel a night. Got a mask or gorget already? Bring it. Otherwise just come as you are — we’ll have practice weapons for you.
We learn together
HOW IT WORKS
We work through the material in focused four-week cohorts, so everyone moves together — no walking into the middle of something you can’t follow.
Come swing a sword
A free, no-commitment evening before each cohort. Learn a cut, hit a target, cross swords. See what it’s about. Tue Jun 16, 23 & 30.
4-Wk fundamentals
Cuts, guards, thrusts, footwork, timing, and your first defenses — finishing with controlled free fencing. Starts Jul 7.
Keep training
The group keeps practicing and free-fencing together. As our loaners grow, more training happens in steel (our long-term goal).
